Tigers 4-6 years old

Tigers program for 4-6 years old children supports developmentally appropriate activities and interactions in the fun experience of martial arts. Children attend weekly classes, in which our certified instructors present exercises that develop coordination of both sides of the body and brain. We emphasize trunk (or Core) Stability that leads to a healthy sense of body awareness. This awareness is needed for all learning situations- Karate class, home and school.

Dragons 6-8 years old

Dragons program for 6-8 years old builds on a philosophy that is introduced in our Tiger program. This class is a bridge from Tigers to Juniors. In Dragons we take the teaching method from Tigers and begin to apply it to more advanced Karate skills. In Dragons the students will begin working on the skills and endurance needed to participate in a Juniors class. If your student is 6 they may be placed in the Tigers program for one curriculum cycle to become familiar with the philosophy of the program. Everyone benefits from a great foundation!

Juniors 8-12 years old

Many martial arts programs take their self-defense system and try to simplify it for kids. At FMAA we recognize that Kids and Teens are not just little adults- they are complex beings, experiencing stages of development in which their bodies and minds are growing at a rapid pace. We've designed our Juniors program with the awareness that, as Kids and Teens experience the patterns of engaged interactions, they develop the body-mind connections that will serve as the foundation for their future.

It is here in the Juniors program that students embark on their path to their Junior Black belt. The curriculum is presented in 3 month “Cycles” of learning culminating with an opportunity to test and advance in rank. At each test it is determined that a student may advance to the next rank or that they need another cycle of learning to advance to the next rank. Students needing another cycle of learning are awarded a new belt of the same color with a black band. Black Belt testing is scheduled in June and December. It's recommended that a student observe a black belt test prior to their scheduled test. This can be in person or virtual observation.
